When Paula from Fly Catcher Events reached out to me about doing a Nordic-inspired styled shoot, I was very excited, especially after seeing the mood board and photos of the private estate in which the shoot would take place. Winter weddings are so underrated. There is a lot of beauty that is to be explored when it comes to having winter weddings and there are many ways to incorporate warmth and colour into your big day even if it is in the colder months.
We shot this editorial in January making it true to the cool Nordic theme of the styled shoot. It also gave us the opportunity to show off the beauty of softer winter lighting.
We incorporated cool accents that fit with the season such as blue ribbon and other winter elements such as dried flowers and foliage. To contrast, we went with a warmer colour palette for flowers showcasing bright yellows, oranges, and pinks which complimented the minimalistic colour and setting of the private estate. We used ranunculus, soft roses, camellia foliage, and one of our absolute favourite flowers: Icelandic poppies. With this selection of flowers in this warmer colour palette, we were able to bring warmth, color, and bright accents to help contrast and balance out the cool winter feeling.
Using different tones of baby's breath, we created two cloud-like dried floral pieces to serve as ceremony arrangements. For the reception table we incorporated smaller textural centrepieces with fresh and dried elements. We brought in warmth and colour through the candles which complemented the fresh elements in our centrepieces and the bridal bouquet. We intentionally chose ceramic accents for their subtle colour which allowed the bright colours of the florals and candles to shine on the table. The pieces in this shoot were created completely free of floral foam. Floral foam is a material that never decomposes and eventually ends up in our waterways - incredibly environmentally-unfriendly. As a business we avoid foam whenever possible to ensure that our business is as eco-friendly as possible.
I was incredibly honoured to be part of such a unique styled shoot that showcased the beauty of winter weddings, especially in an area where we have a long winter season.
